This teaching is going to tell you that Jesus does not want us to be worried. When we worry we forget that God is the one who is in charge of our lives. When we worry we forget that God’s power can change our situation. When we worry we forget to put our faith in God and forget to believe that God will change whatever it is we are praying about.

What is worrying?

Worrying is an emotion and a feeling. Worry is something that happens in our mind and then affects our body and actions. Worrying is not a good thing. It affects us in a negative way. Someone who worries is like someone who is being attacked by a dog. If a dog is barking at someone that person gets very worried thinking that maybe the dog will attack them. If you are worried you feel like someone or something is trying to choke or strangle you. You get scared. You start to think that bad things are going to happen to you.

Children can get very worried if their parents are always telling them to clean up their rooms, do more homework, run faster, or work harder. These children can get very worried because their parents are nagging them all the time.

Jesus tells us not to worry

He says in Matthew 6:28-32 “”And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?”

If we are worrying then we are not putting our faith in God. If we have faith in God and believe that He is with us, and that He is going to help us in every situation, then we will not worry. Faith and worry are opposites, like black and white, and like yes and no. So remember what Jesus tells you to do “don’t worry”.

Even if you are arrested because you believe in Jesus, Jesus tells us not to worry. Even if you are going to be killed because you believe in Jesus, Jesus tells us not to worry.

Jesus says in Mark 13:11-13 “But when you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry in advance about what to say. Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit. A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed. And everyone will hate you because you are my followers. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”

Think about this. Jesus is telling his believers not to worry even if they are arrested and facing death. Jesus is telling Christians that if you are surrounded by people who are about to kill you – don’t worry.

Why does Jesus tell his followers not to worry even if they are about to be killed? Jesus says this because He knows that when his people die they will go to be with Him in heaven forever.

Jesus says to his followers in John 14:1-4 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home….When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.”

Jesus knows that once his believers die on this earth they will be going to heaven where Jesus is. And Jesus tells us that he is preparing a place for us in heaven, a wonderful place where we can be with him forever. So let us all trust in God and Jesus and stop worrying about the future.

We always worry about the future because we have not seen it yet. We think that worst is going to happen. But we need to remember that God is the one who controls our lives and he knows the beginning and the end. Instead of worrying about the future we should trust in God and pray to Him about all the things that are troubling us and put our faith in Him that He is going to help us and save us from our worries. God is going to help you in every one of your situations. You can believe that. It is a guarantee from God. God cares about you and will help you in every situation. It’s a promise from Him.

Don’t worry about the future

Worrying makes you think things that are not true. Worrying makes you think the worst about any situation. Worry does not help you trust in God, or pray to Him, or believe that He is going to help you. Maybe you are not married and you are worried that you never will be. You think to yourself “I am getting old. I am never going to get married. And then I won’t have children. And then when I am old I will not have anyone to talk to or be with.”

These kind of thoughts are not from God. They come from worrying. Instead of worrying you should pray about your concerns to God and put your faith in Him. He will help you and save you from everything you are worrying about.

Let’s remember that God is always in control of everything. He has the power to change any situation. It says in Isaiah 46:10 “Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.”

If we can remember that God is in control of every situation, even if that situation is bad, then we can remember that God is able to help us in that situation. If something bad happens and we remember that God is good then our faith will grow and we will start to believe that God is going to change our bad situation and make it better.

God holds the future in His hands. He always has us in His hands. He knows everything about us. God is with us everywhere we go. The songwriter says in Psalm 31:15 “My future is in your hands. Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly.” The songwriter knows that he can put his trust in God and that God will save him from any situation. We would be wise to do the same thing.

Trust in the Lord and do not lean on your own understanding. Sometimes we don’t see the answer that God is going to give us. But we know that trusting in God is the answer. He is the answer for us because when we come to Him with our problems and concerns He hears us and comforts us, He gives us His peace and we know that everything is going to work out ok because we have put our faith and trust in God.

God gave us the Holy Spirit

Before Jesus went to heaven he told those who believed in Him that the Father would send the Holy Spirit to comfort them. The Holy Spirit gives us peace and strengthens our hearts to believe that God is with us and that he cares for us.

Jesus talked about the Holy Spirit and said in John 14:27 “I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

We can have peace in any situation. We just need to remember that God is with us. We need to pray and remember that the Holy Spirit is in us and that God will never leave us or forsake us.

In Revelation 22:13 Jesus says “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” Jesus has the universe and time in His hands. The whole universe and everything in it is under His power and control. And He is our Saviour and our friend.
