1. Introduction

Christians are not to pray to the angels, or to the spirits of people who have died. God wants us to pray and worship only Him. However, some Roman Catholics I have talked with have said they pray to Mary – and that she answers their prayers. They say that when they were praying to Mary she visited their room with her person or appeared to them in a vision. They said she spoke words of comfort to them, or did a healing miracle in their lives, or answered their prayers, or gave them advice. These things don`t mean that the angel Mary was sent by God. And that doesn`t mean that the things that happened were from God. Christians are only to pray to God.

2. We are to worship God and pray only to Him

Jesus said “You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.” (Luke 4:8).

God is the only one who is worthy to be worshipped. God is perfect, Holy, He is the creator. Mary was made by God. She is not God and is not worthy to be worshipped. Mary was a human just like you and me. She was a sinner just like you and me. However, Mary was chosen by God to give birth to Jesus – the Son of God. She was chosen by God for a special purpose. That does not mean we should worship her or pray to her. Mary is not the mother of God. God was not created by Mary. Mary is the mother of Jesus.

God is worthy to be worshipped. We are to pray only to Him because HE is God, He is perfect, pure, holy and righteous. Jesus said “You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.” Only Him, no one or nothing else: worship only God. And because Mary isn’t God, we are not supposed to worship her.

3. Don’t worship angels

The Bible also says that we are not to worship or pray to angels. It says in Colossians 2:18 that we are not to do the: “worship of angels….”

Don’t worship angels. That’s what the Bible says. Some people may tell you to worship angels but don`t do it. If someone tells you to worship angels, or to pray to Mary, don`t do it. If you had a vision of the angel Mary and she told you to pray to her, or to do anything else for her – don`t do it. It is a sin to pray or worship Mary because you are breaking the first commandment in the Bible.

The first commandment says in Exodus 20:4-5: “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected – even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.”

Praying to an angel of Mary is praying and putting your faith in someone other than God. If you pray to Mary you are not believing in God’s power with all your heart and soul and mind, you are believing in someone else. This is a sin.

4. Mary was a sinner

The Roman Catholics believe that Mary is the mother of God. They call this the immaculate conception. They believe that Mary did not have any sin when she became pregnant with Jesus. But she did. The Bible says that we were born as sinners. This is because Adam and Eve disobeyed God and sin came into the world. And everyone born after Adam and Eve are born as sinners. That includes everyone ever born, including Mary. But Jesus was not born from Adam and Eve. He was sent by God to become a man and be born of a woman. Mary became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit and God is His Father.

5. Jesus is God

The Bible says that God became a man named Jesus and lived among us. It says in John 1:1 and 14: “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God…. So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.”

The Bible also says that God lived inside a human body. It says in Colossians 2:9 “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.” That human body was Jesus.

How did God become a man? The Bible tells us that Mary became pregnant when the Holy Spirit of God came upon her. It says in Luke 1:35 “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.”

Mary gave birth to Jesus, she is not God. She was a sinner just like you and me, just like Moses, and David, and Solomon. Only Jesus Christ as a man is God. He is the Son of God.

Mary also knew that she needed a Saviour, someone to save her from her sins. And that’s what the angel said when he appeared to Mary, the angel said that Mary was going to have a son and that she should “name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21).

Mary herself prayed to God and called God her Savior: “Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!” (Luke 1:47).

Mary needed a Saviour because she was a sinner, a human being just like us, she is not God. And we are to pray only to God: we shouldn’t pray to Mary.

6. Ask the angel Mary if God became a man

If you or someone you know had an angel called Mary visit you and speak to you, here are some questions you should ask this angel: “did God come to earth in the body of a man?” and “is Jesus God in the flesh?”

The Bible says that we are to test the spirits, even those that comes to us in dreams or visions. It says in 1 John 4:2 that the spirits or angels should say that “Jesus Christ came in a real body”, if someone doesn’t say that Jesus Christ came in a real body that person does not have the Spirit of God.

For some reason the devil doesn’t want to say that God came down in the body of a man. So if you have a vision or dream about an angel you can ask that angel if God came down in the body of a man and if that man was Jesus. Don’t believe any angel that comes to you and says you should do something. You should test that spirit to find out if they are from God or from the Devil. You don’t want to follow the Devil do you?

You can ask that spirit where they came from. It says in 1 Corinthians 12:10 that you need to understand who is giving you a message. Is that person or angel from God? It says that you should know if a: “message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit”. So if an angel is giving you a message you can ask the angel is Jesus Christ is God in the flesh.

7. Satan can appear as an angel of light

Sometimes the Devil appears to people as an angel of light, and sometimes he appears as Mary the mother of Jesus. Satan is very tricky. But the Bible warns us that Satan may appear to us as an angel of light and not as angel of darkness.

It says in 2 Corinthians 11:14 that the Devil or Satan can put on a mask to hide his true identity, it says: “Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” So sometimes Satan comes to us and puts on a mask to appear to Christians as someone good. He wants to get Christians to stop believing in God, to stop praying to God, and to stop worshipping God.

8. Statues of Mary

As Christians we know that we are not supposed to bow down to an idol or a statue of anything or anyone. However, around the world there are many statues of Mary and people around the world bow down and pray to these statues. This is called idolatry and it is a sin in God’s eyes.

Sometimes a person may have a vision of Mary and the next thing you know there is a statue built for her and people from around the world go to her shrine and worship her. And some people have even said that the statues speak to them.

In the Book of Revelation it says that Devil will make statues speak and trick people into praying to demons and not to God. It says that the Devil was allowed to: “give life to this statue so that it could speak. Then the statue of the beast commanded that anyone refusing to worship it must die.” (Revelation 13:14-15). The Devil is the one who made the statues of Mary speak to some people.

We should not be building statues for Mary, and we should not be praying or kneeling down before her. That is from the Devil and a sin. We are breaking the first commandment that says “do not bow down to any statue.”

It says in Exodus 20:4-6: “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them….”

This includes the worship of Mary. Christians are not supposed to make any statues and worship them, whether they are the mother of Jesus or not. It doesn’t matter.

9. Demons and the devil have power to do miracles

Devils and demons have the power to do miracles. Some people call these false or fake miracles. But they are miracles. A false miracle is something that looks real and makes you think it is from God, but it is not. For example, some criminals make fake money. The money looks real, but it isn’t. Some criminals make fake credit cards, they look real, but they are not. And demons can do miracles but those miracles are not from God because the demons want you to worship Mary, not God.

We read about false miracles in the Old Testament. Moses was told by God to go to Egypt and release the Israelites from slavery. And God told Moses to do miracles in front of the King of Egypt. After Moses did some miracles in front of the Egyptians, the Egyptian sorcerers also did some miracles. Here is what they did:

It says in Exodus 7:11-12: “Then Pharaoh called in his own wise men and sorcerers, and these Egyptian magicians did the same thing with their magic. They threw down their staffs, which also became serpents!”

In Exodus 7:22 it again says the magicians copied the miracles done by Moses: “But again the magicians of Egypt used their magic, and they, too, turned water into blood.”

And again in Exodus 8:7 the Egyptian magicians performed miracles: “But the magicians were able to do the same thing with their magic. They, too, caused frogs to come up on the land of Egypt.”

But finally in Exodus 8:18-19 the Egyptian wizards could not perform the miracles that God did through Moses: “Pharaoh’s magicians tried to do the same thing with their secret arts, but this time they failed. And the gnats covered everyone, people and animals alike. “This is the finger of God!” the magicians exclaimed to Pharaoh.”

So if you prayed to Mary and a miracle happened in your life it does not mean that the miracle came from God. If you prayed to Mary the miracle came from Satan. So you should say to the angel Mary that you do not believe in her and that you will not follow what she says. And you should ask God for forgiveness and peace from what you have done.

In the book of Revelation we read about how the devil can have even greater powers than the magicians of Egypt. It says in Revelation 13:13-14 that the Devil: “did astounding miracles, even making fire flash down to earth from the sky while everyone was watching. And with all the miracles he was allowed to perform on behalf of the first beast, he deceived all the people who belong to this world.”

Be careful my Christian friend. Worship God only and you will be fine.

10. We are not to speak to the dead

The Bible warns us not to speak to the angel or spirits of people who have died. This includes Mary.

It says in Deuteronomy 18:11 “never ….call forth the spirits of the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.”

Mary was a human being who died and her spirit went to be with God her Savior. The Bible says we are not supposed to call upon the spirits of the dead. Now of course this does not include Jesus because He is God. Jesus is very much alive. God raised Him from the dead and now Jesus is alive and sitting at the right hand of God in heaven praying for us to the Father. We are to pray to Jesus. We do not need to go to someone else. We can pray directly to Jesus.

11. There is only one mediator between God and man

If God wants to speak to you He will speak to you through His Word (the Bible), or through the Holy Spirit, or He will give you a revelation, or Jesus Himself will appear to you in a vision. God doesn’t need any other being or angel to speak to you. In these last days God is working through the Bible and through His Holy Spirit and through Jesus. God does not speak to us through Mary: that is a sin.

It says in Hebrews 1:1-2: “Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.”

Paul tells us in 1 Timothy 2:3-7: “This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity —the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.”

You only need God and the Bible. You only need to pray to Jesus Christ, or the Father, or the Holy Spirit. They are all God and God is in them all. Do not ever pray or put your faith in an angel, or the spirit of someone who has died.

12. Don’t worship or pray to Mary

The Bible tells us that we are only allowed to speak to God, as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Sometimes we pray to God the Father, and sometimes to God the Son, and sometimes to God the Holy Spirit. But we are never told in the Bible to pray to angels. We are never to pray to angels and especially not to angel who says that they are Mary.
