Many people have dreams. These occur at night or at other times when we are sleeping. Sometimes people have visions during the day or night while they are awake. They see things that God is showing them or they see what God is doing do them, like healing them. Yes, God does give us dreams and visions. He talks to us, or ministers to us, through our dreams and visions.

The Holy Spirit will lift up the name of Jesus

Jesus said: “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.” (John 16:13-15).

The role or job of the Holy Spirit is to bring glory to Jesus. Many times in our dreams and visions we will see Jesus. The Holy Spirit of God will speak about the name of Jesus in our dreams and visions. Whatever we are told about Jesus in our dreams should match up with what is said about Jesus in the Bible.

God spoke to Mary about Jesus

Mary, the mother of Jesus, saw a vision of an angel appearing in front of her and telling her that she was going to have a baby and she was to name Him Jesus. This baby would be born without the human intervention of a man. Mary would not have sex with a man but she would become pregnant by the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit.

“God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin…. Her name was Mary. The angel came to her and said, “Greetings! The Lord has blessed you and is with you.” The angel said to her, “Don’t be afraid, Mary; God has shown you his grace. Listen! You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.” (Luke 1:26-31).

God spoke to Joseph about Jesus

Joseph was Jesus’ adopted father. Jesus’ true father was God. Jesus’ earthly father was Joseph. “But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:20-21).

In a dream, God spoke to Joseph through the angel and told Joseph that his fiancée Mary was going to have a baby. This baby was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. Mary became pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Maybe you had a dream or vision about Jesus

Many people have dreams and visions about Jesus Christ, or about the Bible. The message is usually the same: “you can be saved and have your sins forgiven if you put your faith in, and believe in, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Many people have dreams and visions about Jesus because God wants to make Himself real to us. He wants us to know that He exists and that we can be saved by putting our faith in Jesus Christ. Many people start to believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour after they have a dream or vision about Jesus.

Sometimes we have dreams that tell us what will happen in the future

Sometimes God will tell us what is going to happen in the future through a dream or a vision. Sometimes God warns us about something bad that is going to happen. And sometimes God shows us a dream that tells us that something very good is going to happen.

The Bible teaches us that God uses dreams and visions to tell people where to go and spread the gospel message about Jesus Christ. “During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.” (Acts 16:9-10).

Many prophets had visions about the future appearance of Jesus

Many prophets in the Old Testament received dreams and visions from God about the future appearance of the Messiah Jesus Christ on earth. Some of these visions happened 700 years before Jesus was born on the earth. The prophets wrote down these visions that God gave them and we can find these prophecies in the Bible.

“Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.” (Isaiah 53:4-6).

“All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).” (Isaiah 7:14).

“Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the family of David and on the people of Jerusalem. They will look on me whom they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only son. They will grieve bitterly for him as for a firstborn son who has died.” (Zechariah 12:10).
