We know that the biggest problem in our country of Somalia is the clan system. For many years we Somalis have not faced the truth – but it is about time we face the truth.

Our love of the clan system is destroying our country and destroying ours souls. We as Somalis were all born into a clan and this clan was our identity. Our clan was our heritage and can be traced back to a common ancestor. This is something that was in our blood as we learned about the society that was around us. We learned who our father was, who our grandfather was, and who our great-great-great-great grandfather was. But did we learn how to love our neighbor? Did we learn how to love and forgive our enemy? Did we learn now to take care of anyone who needed our help?

As we grew older we began to learn more about the world around us; and we began to see that the clan system was not as good as we thought it was when we were children. When we were younger we felt happy because we were part of a big family – our clan – we felt protected and like we belonged. We had many uncles and aunties; we had many brothers and sisters and we were happy to belong to such a big family.

But then we saw our family members being murdered and killed by other clans. We saw all the terrible things that happened to our own family because we as Somalis believed in the clan system and thought that the clan system would bring us peace and prosperity. But it was lie. Our clan system did not bring us peace and prosperity; our clan system will never bring us peace and prosperity. Our clan system has only brought us death and destruction; our clan system has only brought us pain and suffering; our clan system has made us refugees longing to go back to our country.

It says in the Bible that the devil’s plan is to come only to “steal and kill and destroy;” “yimaado inuu wax xado oo dilo oo”. And that is what the clan system has done to our precious country of Somalia. The devil has come through our clan system to steal our land, to kill our family members, and to destroy our souls.

As we grew older we began to learn more about the clan system and the war that was going on in Somalia and we began to understand that the root cause of all this war was the clan system.

The Bible says:

For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.” – Galatians 3:26-28

“Waayo, kulligiin waxaad wiilashii Ilaah ku tihiin rumaysad idinkoo ku jira Ciise Masiix. In alla intiinna lagu baabtiisay Masiix, waxaad huwateen Masiix. Ma jiro Yuhuud ama Gariig, ma jiro addoon ama xor, ma jiro lab ama dhaddig, waayo, kulligiin mid baad ku wada tihiin Ciise Masiix. Haddaad tihiin Masiixa kuwiisa, waxaad tihiin Ibraahim farcankiisa oo ah kuwa dhaxalka leh sida ballanku leeyahay.” – Galatiya 3:26-29

Instead of a beautiful flower our clans have become poisonous plants; anyone who eats from the clan system will become poisoned in their thoughts and in their minds. Instead of being a place of refuge our clans have become a place where warlords rule and send out their emissaries to kill and destroy people from other clans.

Brothers and sisters – we have to stop believing in the clan system – it is destroying our country and destroying our souls. There is a much better way to live; there is someone and something much better to believe in for peace and joy that the clan system.

There are many evil people in the world; but there is no one as evil as someone who wants to kill a Christian or someone who hates the name of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior of the world and all who believe in Him will be saved.

There was a Pastor who lived in Russia and was a part of the underground church. One day he was arrested and thrown into prison. The guards wanted the Pastor to tell them where all the other Christians lived so that they could go and arrest them as well. But the Pastor refused to tell the guards where the other Christians lived and who they were.

Then the guards arrested one of the Pastor’s friends and started to torture him in front of the Pastor. The Pastor wanted to tell the guards where the other Christians were living so that the guards would stop torturing his friend. But the friend cried out and told the Pastor not to tell the guards where the other Christians were. The friend told the Pastor to remain faithful to Jesus Christ.

And so Pastor remained silent and would not tell the guards who the other Christians were or where they lived. The guards then took out the eyes of the Pastor’s friend. And still the friend cried out to the Pastor and said “Do not tell them anything; I can now see Jesus Christ better without my eyes then when I had them.”

The guards threatened to cut out the friend’s tongue but before they could do so the friend cried out with a loud voice: “Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. Praise be to the Lord Jesus Christ. I have now said the highest words that anyone could ever say and I feel such joy and peace within my soul.”

The Pastor’s friend died and his soul went to be with Jesus in heaven.

My dear Somalis: I love you with the heart of Jesus Christ; I love with the heart of a loving Pastor, a friend; I love you like a good Father loves his children. Do not continue believing in the clan system and the worship of your ancestors. You need to turn your hearts to God our Father; put your faith and trust in God and when you ask God to forgive you of your sins you will be born again and God will help you love and do good things to Somalis to all the clans.

God is our Father and we are all His children. We are children of God – not children of our clan. We are children of the light – and not children of the darkness of our clans. We are salt to the earth – we are not an evil plague that has come upon our country.

“God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

“Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.” – Matthew 5:11-19

“Waad barakaysan tihiin goortii laydin caayo, oo laydin silciyo, oo wax walba oo xun oo been ah laydinka sheego aawaday. Farxa oo reyreeya, waayo, jannada abaalgudkiinnu waa ku weyn yahay, waayo, sidaasay u silcin jireen nebiyadii idinka horreeyey.

Idinku waxaad tihiin cusbadii dhulka, laakiin haddii cusbadu dhadhan beesho, maxaa lagu cusbaynayaa? Dabadeed waxba tari mayso in dibadda loo tuuro oo dadku ku tunto maahee. Idinku waxaad tihiin iftiinkii dunida. Magaalo buur ku taallu ma qarsoomi karto. Ilays looma shido in la hoos geliyo weel, laakiin waxaa la saaraa meeshii ilayska, oo wuu u iftiimaa kuwa guriga ku jira oo dhan. Sidaas oo kale iftiinkiinnu dadka hortiisa ha iftiimo, si ay shuqulladiinna wanaagsan u arkaan, oo ay Aabbihiinna jannada ku jira u ammaanaan.

Ha u malaynina inaan u imid inaan sharciga ama qorniintii nebiyada baabbi’iyo; uma aan iman inaan baabbi’iyo, laakiin waxaan u imid inaan wada oofiyo Runtii waxaan idinku leeyahay, Intaan cirka iyo dhulku idlaan, xaraf ama dhibic keliya ka idlaan mayso sharciga ilaa ay wada noqdaan. Sidaa darteed kii jebiya qaynuunnadan kuwa ugu yar midkood, oo sidaas dadka u bara, waxaa loogu yeedhi doonaa kan uga yar boqortooyadii jannada, laakiin kii yeela oo bara, waxaa loogu yeedhi doonaa kan weyn boqortooyadii jannada.” – Matayos 5:11-19

There is a lot of evil in this world my dear Somali brothers and sisters. Let us face the truth and admit that our love of our clan system has destroyed our country and our faith in God – the love of our clan system has destroyed our souls. We need to turn to Christ and let the Peace of Peace – Jesus Christ – fill our hearts with love.

As it says in the Bible:

“You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”

“Isagaa u jawaabay oo ku yidhi, Waa inaad Rabbiga Ilaahaaga ah ka jeclaataa qalbigaaga oo dhan, iyo naftaada oo dhan, iyo xooggaaga oo dhan, iyo caqligaaga oo dhan, deriskaagana waa inaad u jeclaataa sida naftaada.”

Let us pray…..
