The hardest question we at Somali Christian Ministries have to deal with is when a Somali Christian calls us or emails us and says “I am a Somali Christian; when do I tell my family I am a Christian.” The short answer is that we do not know when you should tell your family and friends that you are a Christian. But if you tell them then it would be wise if you had a place to go to and live because they might kick you out of the house.

“When should you tell your family that you are a Somali Christian?” It is a very difficult question.

We know for sure that Jesus says in the Bible:

“Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

“Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.

“Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword. ‘I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother,
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. Your enemies will be right in your own household! “If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine.  If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.” – Matthew 10:28-39

“Ha ka baqina kuwa jidhka dila, laakiin aan karin inay nafta dilaan, waxaadse ka baqdaan kan jahannamada ku hallayn kara nafta iyo jidhkaba. Laba shimbirrood miyaan beesad lagu iibin? Middoodna dhulka ku dhici mayso amarka Aabbihiin la’aantiis. Timaha madaxiinna oo dhan waa tirsan yihiin. Sidaa darteed ha baqina, waad ka qiima badan tihiin shimbirro badan. Sidaa darteed mid walba oo igu qirta dadka hortiisa, anna waan ku qiran doonaa Aabbahayga jannada ku jira hortiisa. Laakiin ku alla kii igu diida dadka hortiisa, anna waan ku diidi doonaa Aabbahayga jannada ku jira hortiisa.

Doorashada Dhibta Leh Iyo Abaalgudkeeda

Ha u malaynina inaan u imid inaan nabad dhulka u keeno; uma aan iman inaan nabad keeno, laakiin inaan seef keeno. Waxaanse u imid inaan nin cadow kaga dhigo aabbihiis, gabadhna hooyadeed, naagna soddohdeed. Nin cadowgiisu waa dadka gurigiisa. – Matayos 10:28-39

So if you are a Christian you cannot deny that you believe in Jesus Christ. If someone asks you if you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ you cannot say that you do not believe in Him. That would be denying Him. If you believe in Jesus Christ you are to hold on to our faith in Jesus; you are to continue believing in Him; and if someone asks you if you believe in Him you are to say yes even if you are going to be persecuted; even if you are to be kicked out of your family; even if you are to be killed. You are to continue believing in Jesus Christ and saying that you believe in Jesus Christ.

Jesus said this in the Bible:

“Because you have obeyed my command to persevere, I will protect you from the great time of testing that will come upon the whole world to test those who belong to this world. I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown. All who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of my God, and they will never have to leave it. And I will write on them the name of my God, and they will be citizens in the city of my God—the new Jerusalem that comes down from heaven from my God. And I will also write on them my new name. – Revelation 3:10-12

Adigu waxaad dhawrtay ereygayga oo aad dulqaadatay, oo sidaas daraaddeed waxaan kaa dhawri doonaa saacadda jirrabaadda oo dhowaan u imanaysa dunida oo dhan inay jirrabto kuwa dhulka deggan. Anigu dhaqsaan u imanayaa. Haddaba xaji waxaad haysatid si aan ninna taajkaaga kaaga qaadin. Kii guulaysta waxaan ka dhigi doonaa tiir ku jira macbudka Ilaahayga, halkaasna mar dambe kama bixi doono, oo waxaan dushiisa ku qori doonaa magaca Ilaahayga, iyo magaca magaalada Ilaahayga, taas oo ah Yeruusaalemta cusub, oo samada iyo xagga Ilaahayga ka soo degaysa, iyo xataa magacayga cusub.” – Revelation 3:10-12

Once there was a young man who lived in the city of Rome a long time ago. He lived there after Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead. The Romans did not want the Christians in their city because the Christians refused to worship idols. Christians do not worship statues or idols; Christians only worship the one and only God – Allah.

Justin was in prison with some other Christians and the chief guard came to Justin and ordered Justin to sacrifice some meat to the idol gods. Justin refused. The chief guard asked Justin again to sacrifice some meat and worship the idols gods or he was going kill him.

Justin told the chief guard: “I believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and He has given me eternal life. I will not change my eternal life in heaven to worship an idol here on earth. If you kill me I know I am going to go to heaven to be with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You can do to my body what you will but you cannot take my soul.”

The other Christians with Justin also refused to worship the Roman idol gods and they were beaten and had their heads cut off and died. But their souls went to heaven to be with the Lord Jesus Christ because they did not deny the Lord. They went to be with God for eternity because they refused to deny the Lord Jesus Christ.

God sees your heart. Sometimes you will have to speak up for the Lord Jesus Christ but other times you will live as a secret believer; if you are a Christian other people may not know that you are a Christian. You do not have to tell everyone you meet that you are a Christian; but if the Lord brings you to a place where you are asked if you are a Christian then you need to remember what the Lord Jesus Christ said.

Jesus said: But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.”

“Sidaa darteed mid walba oo igu qirta dadka hortiisa, anna waan ku qiran doonaa Aabbahayga jannada ku jira hortiisa. Laakiin ku alla kii igu diida dadka hortiisa, anna waan ku diidi doonaa Aabbahayga jannada ku jira hortiisa.”

So if you are a Somali Christian and if you are asking us if you should tell everyone that you are a Christian; we are telling you not to deny the Lord Jesus Christ. We are not saying you have to tell everyone that you are a Christian but we believe that the Holy Spirit will guide you and tell you what to do, and where to go; because you belong to God. God is your Father.

If you are a Christian you have been born again and God is your Father; and a Father loves His children and will guide them and take care of them. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved; you and your whole family. Trust in the Lord and He will bring it to pass. Commit your ways to the Lord and He will make it happen. Do not deny Jesus Christ here and earth and your brother Jesus will not deny you before God our Father who is in heaven.

If you want to know more about Jesus Christ and share with us that you are a Christian then you can contact us. Be encouraged – God sees your heart. God knows you and cares about you. You are not alone. God sees everything that is going on in your life and cares very much about you.

May the Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and bless in Jesus name.

Let us pray…..
