The Bible says: “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” – 1 Corinthians 5:17
And it is Jesus who is seated on the throne in heaven who says: “I am making everything new!” – Revelation 21:5
It is Jesus who makes us new; it is Jesus who makes us into a new creation; it is Jesus who creates us to be new human beings – and He does this by His Holy Spirit. When we believe in Jesus Christ we receive the Holy Spirit, that is what it means to be born again, “not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God,” – John 1:13.
So when you are thinking about becoming a Christian look to who you are going to be instead of who you are right now, because after you believe in Jesus Christ and put your faith in Him you will become a new person. It doesn’t matter if you are a man, woman, or child – you will become a new person in Christ, the old will be gone and the new will come. It will be like Jesus said it would be “Behold I make all things new” – and all things mean you and I.
A new creation in Christ
The Holy Spirit is God and is a very powerful person of the Trinity. God is one, there is only one God, and He is revealed to us in 3 persons – the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who is given to us when we believe in Jesus Christ as the Saviour and forgiver of our sins, and the Holy Spirit is the one who changes the way we think, feel and act.
Paul said “But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.” (Ephesians 4:20).
“ Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.
So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
We have become new. We have died to our sinful nature and God has forgiven us of our sins because Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Jesus paid the penalty for our sins and if we believe in Him we will be forgiven for our sins. We become new human beings by the power of the Holy Spirit who is given to us when we believe and who gives us the strength, power and wisdom to live a new holy life for God.
Peter said that we are born again and citizens of a heavenly Kingdom.
“God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
May God give you more and more grace and peace.
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.
You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.
For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God. As the Scriptures say,
“People are like grass;
their beauty is like a flower in the field.
The grass withers and the flower fades.
But the word of the Lord remains forever.”
And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.”
We as Christians are to live this new life in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is given to us so that we would be able to live this new life for Christ.
As Peter says: “Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation.”
We must desire the life of the Spirit and pray and ask God to help us live it because without Christ we cannot do anything.
New in Christ
Jesus came to give people a new life. Jesus said: “Healthy people don’t need a doctor–sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”
When we get sick and if we can afford to pay the money then we go to the doctor so he or she can help us get better; we are not ashamed to go to the doctor we are happy and we hope we are going to be healed. And so when we come to Jesus and put our faith and trust and hope in Him we can have great hope that He will wash way our sins and make us clean. Jesus is looking for people who know that they are sinners and Jesus is looking for people who know that they have to have their sins forgiven.
Jesus forgave the woman caught in adultery
Jesus forgives sinners; Jesus forgives people who have sinned; Jesus is filled with love, compassion and understanding. Once a woman committed adultery and had sex with a man who was not her husband – and she got caught. The Jewish religious leaders wanted to stone her to death because that is what the punishment under the law said had to happen to her.
But Jesus came to bring in a new way of dealing with sinners; Jesus came to forgive sins because He knew that He was going to die on the cross and suffer for all the sins that everyone had committed.
Let us read about the story of the woman who was caught in adultery and brought to Jesus to be stoned to death:
“Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives, but early the next morning he was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them. As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.
“Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”
They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.
When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
“No, Lord,” she said.
And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.” – John 8:1-11.
Jesus told the woman – Go and sin no more. Jesus expected her to change her life; Jesus forgave her of her sins but that did not mean the woman could go out again and sin and do the things that she was doing before – she had to change. And Jesus was the one who changed her; her forgave and gave her a new life.
Jesus forgives us as sinners and gives us a new life
We have all sinned against God; and there is no shame coming to the doctor to wash away our sins. Jesus is our doctor. He is the one who can give us the medicine which is His blood. We need His blood to wash away our sins because His blood represents the punishment that God gave Jesus for our sins. We are very happy that Jesus died for us because that means we do not have to die and go to hell for our own sins – Jesus did that for us.
Jesus forgives sins and believes in giving people a brand new start. He forgave the woman caught in adultery, she should have been killed – stoned to death – according to the Law – but she was forgiven of her sins and spared from death.
We too have been spared from the second death and given new life here and now on this earth; so we can live like new human beings. So if you are in sin, or have done some very bad things in your life, don’t worry; God wants to forgive your sins and give you a brand new start.
