Most Christian families are made up of a father, mother, and children. A Christian man can only marry one wife. And Christians cannot divorce. They can only divorce if the husband, or the wife, sleeps with another person. This is called adultery. The mother and father are to raise their children to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. The father is the spiritual leader of the house and he teaches his wife and children about the Lord.
How does a husband behave?
“Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly” – Colossians 3:19.
Christian husbands are not allowed to hit their wives. They are not allowed to yell at them or to be harsh with them. Husbands are to treat their wives gently and to take care of them all the time.
“Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged” – Colossians 3:21.
Fathers should not make their children angry. They should not yell at their children and try to scare them. Fathers should not make fun of their children or call them any bad names.
Husbands, or fathers, are not allowed to get drunk and spend their money on things that are not good for their families. Husbands are not allowed to stay out late at night and waste their money and their time. Husbands are the caretakers of the family. They are to provide for the family with their time and with their hearts. Husbands and fathers are to treat their families with respect and to be kind to them all the time.
“For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Saviour of his body, the church….For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. And we are members of his body” – Ephesians 5:22-33.
How do wives act?
“Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good” – Titus 2:3.
Christian women should be peaceful. They should take care of the home and serve their families. They should not get drunk with alcohol. They should teach their families what is good.
“These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God” – Titus 2:4-5.
Wives must love their husbands and serve them. Wives must take care of their houses and their children, and their husbands. Older wives must teach the younger wives how to act peacefully in their homes.
Husbands and wives should pray together
“In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered” – 1 Peter 3:7.
God wants husbands and wives to pray together. Husbands and wives are to pray for their children, and to pray for each other. They are to pray for the people around them.
Husband and wives should have sex together regularly
“The husband should fulfill his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband’s needs. The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife. Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won’t be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control” – 1 Corinthians 7:3-5.
It is important for the husband and wife to love each other physically and to have sex with each other regularly. In this way Satan will not be able to tempt the husband or wife to have sex with other people. Married couples should stay together in prayer to make sure they do not commit adultery.
Mothers and fathers should teach their children about the Lord
“Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth” – Ephesians 6:1-3.
Parents are to teach their children what is in the Bible. They are to teach their children how to trust in the Lord and to obey Him. Children are to listen to their parents and learn about how to trust in the Lord and to obey the Lord.
Families serve and worship the Lord together
As families:
“You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself” – Luke 10:27.
The whole family should go to church and worship God. Parents and children, and grandchildren should all worship the Lord together and pray to God and obey Him. It is our duty as Christian parents to teach our children about God in the way we act.
We should teach them the Bible and bring them to church so that they can learn more about God and meet other Christians.
