No. Christians cannot do whatever they want and still go to heaven. In order to become a Christian a person has to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour and they have to want to turn away from their sins. We are saved when we put our faith in Jesus Christ. Our sins are forgiven when we accept Jesus’ death for us on the cross and when we invite Him into our lives. Then, we need to live according to the Spirit of God. We cannot live the way we want to live, we have to live the way God wants us to live. There has to be a turning away from sin and a turning away from living for ourselves, and a turning to Christ and living for God.

If you are a Christian you need to follow the teaching of Jesus (Isa)

Jesus said:

“Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned” – Mark 16:15-16.

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you” – Matthew 28:19-20.

As a Christian we are required to obey everything that Jesus told us to do. We cannot commit adultery, we cannot steal, we cannot murder, we have to respect our parents, we have to give to the poor, we have to worship God and pray to Him and live holy lives.

As a Christian you cannot live your life the way you want to, you have to live your life the way God wants you to. You have to obey God. If you are not living for God, if you are not living the way God wants you to live, then you are not going to heaven.

Our works and behaviour will show if we have faith or not

As a Christian you show that you have faith in God by your actions. You show that you are a Christian by what it is you do, not by what it is you say. James tells us:

“So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless” – James 2:17. And “Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works” – James 2:26.

You cannot say you are Christian and live your life the way you want to live. That is not what a Christian is. That is just someone who says they are a Christian, but in reality they are not.

People who live in sin do not go to heaven

In Christianity you cannot go to heaven by what it is you say. You go to heaven because of what it is you did. If you put your faith in Jesus Christ then you have done something, you started to believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Once you put your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and been baptized, then you have been saved, you have been born again, washed in the blood of Jesus Christ. You are on your way to heaven. And people will see that you are a Christian by the way you act.

If you say you are a Christian, but you have not put your faith in Jesus Christ, then you are not be saved, you are not born again, and you are not be going to heaven. You must accept Christ as your Saviour and you must be born again.

The Bible teaches us:

“Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” – 1 Corinthians 6:9-11.

Believing in Jesus Christ is enough to go to heaven

We are saved by our faith in Jesus Christ. We cannot earn our own salvation. The Bible teaches us:

“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it” – Ephesians 2:8-9.

The thief on the cross was saved because he decided in his heart that he would believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour, and Jesus said to him: “today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43).

We are saved by faith, but our faith has to be something that other people can see. We cannot have faith if we do not have any good works to show that we have faith. Jesus said:

“A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs are never gathered from thornbushes, and grapes are not picked from bramble bushes. A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart” – Luke 6:43-45.

You cannot do anything you want and go to heaven

Jesus said that we must produce good fruit as Christians. We must have good deeds and good acts. We must have good behaviour and show acts of love and kindness to everyone. We cannot say we believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and do whatever we want. We cannot live a life of sin and expect that we are going to go heaven. We need to the good works to show that we have faith in Jesus Christ.
