There is a wonderful Scripture in the Bible which I have lived by ever since I became a Christian at 24 years of age; and that Scripture is:

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” – Matthew 6:33.

God has so miraculously blessed me by keeping His word to me; I may have worked longer and harder than most Christians in my ministry; but not as hard as others.

But it doesn’t matter. When you are working for the Lord He will provide for all your needs whether or not you are doing something for Him part-time or full-time; as long as you are serving and working for the Lord He will take care of your needs.

But notice what Jesus says in this Scripture.

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” – Matthew 6:33.

In another version of the Bible it reads a bit differently but has the same meaning:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

God knows what we need. He knows that we need to feed our families, or have jobs, or have some source of income; but we are not to be the ones to determine or decide how this is supposed to happen; what we should focus on is working on these two things: living righteously; and seeking after God.

Sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? Well as a matter of fact it is. I have seen two instances in other people’s lives very recently that prove this Scripture to be true. One man didn’t have any work and he works in the trades; he is a skilled laborer and works with his hands. But instead of staying at home and worrying about where his next meal was coming from; or panicking about where the money was going to come for his rent; this man chose to serve God by visiting a friend who was going to go through a medical procedure. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. This man was seeking after God by helping a brother who was ill and needed some assistance to get to the hospital; and God blessed this servant of God by providing him with some new contracts for work on very good terms.

Another person just joined a ministry to help out those in that ministry; and wouldn’t you know it – the day after she committed to helping out in this ministry she was bless with permanent status at her job (and this after three years at this job as a contract person); and she got a bonus at work the day on that same day; this woman of God chose to put her money where her mouth is and start serving the Lord in a ministry. You see how God works? God honors His word; God stands behind what He says.

Let’s repeat that Scripture for the benefit of all of us:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

There are two things that God wants us to do in order to live a joyful life upon this earth: live righteously; and see the Kingdom of God.

Living righteously means to stay away from sin. So if you have sin in your life then deal with it; don’t sweep it under the carpet and pretend it’s not there. Put it on the table and get on your knees before God and say “God you need to help me to get rid of this sin.” Whatever it is: if your drinking, or popping pills, or yelling at your wife, or jealous, or angry, or lazy or whatever it is you are doing – even though you are a Christian – them bring it before God and deal with it.

Part one of what Jesus is saying is “live righteously”; what did Jesus say to the rich young ruler?

“One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

Sell all that you have; and follow Me. You see the same principle here at work – sell all that you have (live righteously); and follow Me (Seek after the Kingdom of God).

So those are the 2 questions you as a Christian, me as a Christian, anyone who is a Christian should answer – What do I need to do to live a righteous life before God today and what does God want me to do for Him in His Kingdom. Then just go out there and do it and watch the blessings pour in.

Because the result of living righteously and serving God is that God will add all the other things to our lives that we are so eagerly desiring. You want peace? Seek God and live righteously? You need money? Seek God and live righteously. Whatever you need or heart’s desire is, the Lord has promised you:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

You will be blessed when you put these 2 truths into practice: Live righteously and serve God.
