The Bible teaches us the difference between good and bad. God tells us what is good and what is bad in the Bible. The Bible is our guide. If we need to know what to do about anything here on earth then we can read the Bible to get our answers. The Bible also tells us how to go to heaven.
The Bible teaches us about salvation
Timothy was a young man who was taught the Old Testament.
“You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Timothy 3:15.
The Old Testament teaches us that God was always planning to send His Eternal Son Jesus to earth to save people from their sins.
The Bible comes from God
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” – 2 Timothy 3:16.
God is the one who told the prophets what to write in the Bible. Then God protected the Bible and had it translated in different languages so that all the people of the earth could read the Bible in their own language.
“…prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.” – 2 Peter 1:21.
The Bible is the truth
“Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.” (Psalm 25:5). The Bible is the truth. We can read it and feel safe because we are reading the Words of God.
“Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.” – John 17:17.
“All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.” – Psalm 119:160.
If we want to know the truth and if we want to learn about what is good and what is bad then we can read the Bible. The Bible will teach us the difference between good and bad. The Bible will teach how to live a good and holy life.
The Bible is a guide
The Words that God spoke and the prophets wrote down in the Bible guide us and help us to live a good life. The Bible is a guide. If we need to know what to do then we can read the Bible and God will teach us what we have to do through His Word, the Bible.
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” – Psalm 119:105.
A guide is someone who points the way for you to go. God points the way we should go when we read His Word, the Bible.
“Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.” – Psalm 119:133.
God’s Word the Bible is light
When we feel like we are in the darkness and we are scared, or we do not know what to do, then we can read the Bible and God will guide us and make His light to shine on us in the darkness. Life is full of many troubles and difficulties. And many times we do not know what to do. That is when we can open the Bible and read it. God will teach us through the Bible what it is we can do. God will help us in our times of trouble when we read the Bible.
“The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand.” – Psalm 119:130.
The Bible corrects us when we are wrong
“And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the LORD’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you.” – Hebrews 12:5.
Sometimes we do what is wrong. When we read the Bible God sometimes tells us that what we are doing is wrong. And He can correct us. This is called discipline. When we read the Bible God can speak to our hearts and instruct us and tells us if we are doing something wrong. He also tells us what it is we should do to be obedient to Him.
If we love God we will obey His Word the Bible
“Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” – John 14:23.
“If we love God then we will do what God teaches us to do in His Word, the Bible. Our obedience to God’s Word is a sign that show God that we love Him.
“By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.” – 1 John 5:2-3.
Loving God is more that just saying we love Him. We have to obey Him. And we obey Him when we listen to what God and Jesus tell us in the Bible. Obeying God means that we read His Word, the Bible, and we do what it is the Bible tells us to do. This is called obedience.
Jesus said that if we believe in God we will obey Him
Jesus knows that what people say is not always the truth. We know what people are like but the way they act. We understand what a person is like not so much by what they say, but by what it is they do.
“Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:31-32.
So if you really want to be a disciple and follower of Jesus and God then you need to ask God to come into your life. If you want to be a true believer in Jesus then you need to obey what Jesus says in the Bible.
