To become a Christian you need to make an effort to learn about God or show some kind of interest to learn about Jesus. You have to pray and ask God to reveal Himself to you. You have to ask a Christian questions about God, the Bible, and Jesus. You need to do some research over the internet or watch some Youtube videos about God. You need to read and study the Bible. In some way you have to make an effort to know God.
Read the Bible
Many people talk about the Bible. Many people have an opinion about the Bible. They think they know something about the Bible and have their own beliefs about it. But they have never read it.
People listen to what others say about the Bible even though they haven’t read it for themselves. If you want to know what is in the Bible then you are going to have to read it for yourselves.
The Bible says:
“They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth” – Acts 17:11.
How can you say that you know what is in the Bible if you have never read it? How can you say you know what it is like to live in a different culture and country if you have never been there? You need to experience a different place to know what it is like. You need to eat food to know what it tastes like. And the same with the Bible, God’s Word, you have to read it for yourselves to be able to know what is in it.
Many people change their minds about the Bible when they read it
The Bible has many teachings in it. Here are some teachings from the Bible to show you what is in the Bible.
Some people think that Christians accept and believe that homosexuality is a proper and good thing. But the Bible teaches that homosexuality is a sin against the will of God.
“If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable” – Leviticus 20:13.
Some people say that Christians believe in 3 gods. But the Bible says that there is only one God.
“The LORD our God, the LORD is one” – Deuteronomy 6:4.
Some people think that Jesus was created in a very physical way. They think very strange thoughts about how Jesus was created. But the Bible teaches us that Jesus was created as a miracle. His birth was a miracle. Mary getting pregnant was a miracle that God did. A virgin become pregnant without ever having sex.
“This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit” – Matthew 1:18.
Some people think that Christians are allowed to get drunk. But the Bible teaches that getting drunk and living a life filled with alcohol is a sin.
“Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit” – Ephesians 5:18.
Some people also think that Christian women are allowed to dress so that they show off their private body parts. But the Bible says that Christian women should dress modestly and cover up their private parts.
“And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes” – 1 Timothy 2:9.
And some people think that Christians are allowed to divorce and then go and get married with whoever they want and whenever they want. But this is not so. The Bible teaches us that God does not want Christians and those who believe in God to get a divorce.
The Bible teaches us:
“For I hate divorce!” says the LORD, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife” – Malachi 2:16.
Find out for yourself
You have to read and understand and learn things about God for yourself. Many people want to become rich and powerful by pretending to know everything about God and the Bible. They want to have the positions of power and want everyone to respect them and treat them in a special way. Lots of people like to be famous and be seen and heard by others. They like others to think that they are experts. And they make a lot of money by pretending to know what the Bible says and teaching others what they think.
But a person cannot understand what a book is all about unless they read it for themselves. If you want to learn about Christianity then you need to go and ask a Christian. If you want to learn about Christians then you need to go to the people of the book themselves, and ask them what Christianity and the Bible is all about.
We want to know Jesus
One time in the Bible we read about some people who came to some Christians and asked them to teach them and tell them about Christianity. The Christians “and they went together to ask Jesus” – John 12:22.
To know about God and the Bible is to come to God in prayer and ask Him to reveal Himself to you. To learn about God means that you can go to a Christian and ask them to teach you about God. And they will introduce you to God and to Jesus. You will worship God with them and then ask Jesus to enter your life to forgive of your sins. If you want to know about God, make an effort, and get on your knees and pray and ask Him to show Himself to you and to come into your life.
