Knowing God personally is something that is foreign to us Somalis: we do not think that we can be friends with God. And yet the Bible says that people can be friends with God.
Abraham was a prophet in the Old Testament; we know him as Ibraahim. Yes Ibraahim was a prophet but Ibraahim was also a friend of God: it says so in the Bible:
“And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” He was even called the friend of God.”
“Waxaa rumoobay Qorniinka leh, Ibraahimna Ilaah buu rumaystay, oo waxaa isaga loogu tiriyey xaqnimo, oo waxaa loogu yeedhay saaxiibkii Ilaah.”
When God talks about Abraham God calls Abraham His friend. It says in the Bible:
“But as for you, Israel my servant, Jacob my chosen one, descended from Abraham my friend.”
“Laakiinse reer binu Israa’iilow, waxaad tihiin addoommadayda, reer Yacquubkii aan doortayow, farcankii saaxiibkay Ibraahimow,”
Jesus Christ also calls those of us who believe in Him as Lord and Savior as His friends. Do not be afraid to be called God’s friend. Do not be afraid to be called the friends of Jesus Christ.
It says in the Bible:
“The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts and drinks, and you say, ‘He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!’” – Matthew 11:19
“Wiilka Aadanahuse waa yimid isagoo wax cunaya oo cabbaya, oo waxay yidhaahdaan, Eeg, waa nin cir weyn oo khamriyacab ah oo saaxiib la ah cashuurqaadayaal iyo dembilayaal.” – Matayos 11:19
Do you want to have Jesus as your friend?
Jesus Christ is alive today. Jesus died on the cross and was buried but after 3 days He rose from the dead. Jesus walked upon this earth for 40 days after He rose from the dead – then Jesus was lifted up miraculously into heaven where He is right now praying for us – we are His friends and we worship Him and look forward to His return at the end of the world.
God wants to lift you up out of the dust of unbelief and place a royal robe on your body and a crown of glory upon your head and call you His Son or Daughter: God wants to adopt you into His family and call you His child. What are you waiting for?
Jesus Christ is the light of the world. Jesus Christ is the Savior sent to earth to free us from our poverty of sin and despair. Jesus Christ gives us the hope of eternal life. Jesus gives us blessings of peace and joy here upon the earth.
Jesus Christ is ready at this moment to share with you and give you the cleansing power of His shed blood to save you from your sins and fill you with His Spirit. Jesus is ready to comfort you – God will not leave you empty. God will fill you with His love and joy and peace through the power of the Holy Spirit.
All you have to do is ask. All you have to do is cry out to God in your despair and confusion and ask Him to do a miracle in your life – to change you forever; to give you peace and joy and hope about the future.
In the year 1557 there were two Christians who were going to be burned at the stake for their faith. They lived in England when Queen Mary was the ruler over England. Queen Mary of England did not like Christians and she had them killed – she was known in history as Bloody Mary.
These two men were now in the hands of the government and they were about to be burned at the stake – they were about to be killed by fire. Their friends came to comfort them and encourage them. When the police chief saw the friends were helping the two men the police chief immediately wanted to arrest the friends. But the whole crowd surrounded the two men who were tied to the stake so that the police couldn’t arrest their friends.
God is like that with us. God is our friend. And when we are in danger and in trouble God surrounds us with His love and His angels and He protects us from all harm. Even if we are persecuted and find ourselves in trouble – God is with us.
It says in the Bible that God is our hiding place; and that He protects us from trouble. God surrounds us with songs of victory. God is our refuge and our strength, He is a very present help in times of trouble. When darkness closes in God is our light. When confusion comes into our minds God is our wisdom. When panic and fear come into our minds then God’s Holy Spirit comforts us and gives us peace.
When our hope runs out and we become afraid God visits us in a special way and provides us words of encouragement and peace. God is love. God is our rock and our stronghold. We put our faith and trust in our God and our God always delivers us from trouble. He is our shield and our strong tower. He is our mighty friend and is powerful to deliver us and protect us from all evil. He is our Savior and our friend.
This is what Jesus says to us:
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.
“I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. This is my command: Love each other.
“If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you. Do you remember what I told you? ‘A slave is not greater than the master.’ Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you. And if they had listened to me, they would listen to you. They will do all this to you because of me, for they have rejected the one who sent me. They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them. But now they have no excuse for their sin. Anyone who hates me also hates my Father. If I hadn’t done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be guilty. But as it is, they have seen everything I did, yet they still hate me and my Father. This fulfills what is written in their Scriptures: ‘They hated me without cause.’
“But I will send you the Advocate—the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me. And you must also testify about me because you have been with me from the beginning of my ministry.” – John chapter 15
“Anaa ah geedka canabka ah, idinna waxaad tihiin laamihii. Kii igu jira oo anna aan ku jiro, kaasaa midho badan dhala, maxaa yeelay, la’aantay waxba ma samayn kartaan. Qof uun hadduusan igu jirin waxaa loo tuuraa sida laan oo kale, waana qallalaa, markaasaa la ururiyaa, oo dabka lagu tuuraa, oo la gubaa.Haddaad igu jirtaan, oo ay erayadayduna idinku jiraan, weyddiista waxaad doonaysaanba, waana laydiin yeeli doonaa. Waxaa Aabbahay ku ammaanmaa inaad midho badan dhashaan, waxaadna noqon doontaan xertayda. Siduu Aabbuhu ii jeclaaday, ayaan anna idiin jeclaaday. Jacaylkayga ku sii jira. Haddaad qaynuunnadayda xajisaan, jacaylkaygaad ku jiri doontaan, sidaan qaynuunnada Aabbahay u xajiyey, oo aan jacaylkiisa ugu jiro.
Waxaan waxyaalahaas idiinkula hadlay in farxaddaydu idinku jirto, iyo inay farxaddiinnu buuxsanto. Kanu waa qaynuunkayga inaad isjeclaataan sidaan idiin jeclaaday. Ninna ma leh jacayl kan ka weyn inuu nin naftiisa u bixiyo saaxiibbadiis. Saaxiibbaday baad tihiin haddaad yeeshaan waxaan idinku amro. Mar dambe addoommo idiinku yeedhi maayo, maxaa yeelay, addoonku garan maayo wuxuu sayidkiisu sameeyo, laakiin saaxiibbo waan idiinku yeedhay, maxaa yeelay, waxaan Aabbahay ka soo maqlay oo dhan ayaan idin ogeysiiyey. Idinku ima aydnaan dooran, laakiinse anaa idin doortay, waanan idiin diray inaad tagtaan oo midho soo dhashaan, iyo in midhihiinnu sii jiraan, in wax alla waxaad Aabbaha magacayga ku weyddiisataan uu idin siiyo. Waxyaalahaas ayaan idiinku amray inaad isjeclaataan.
Dunidu hadday idin nebcaato, waad garanaysaan inay hortiin i nebcaatay. Haddaad kuwa dunida ahaan lahaydeen, dunidu kuweeda way jeclaan lahayd, laakiin kuwa dunida ma ihidin, waanse idinka doortay dunida, taas aawadeed dunidu way idin neceb tahay.Xusuusta hadalkaan idinku idhi, Addoon kama weyna sayidkiisa. Hadday i silciyeen, idinkana way idin silcin doonaan. Hadday hadalkayga xajiyeen, kiinnana way xajin doonaan. Laakiin waxyaalahaas oo dhan waxay idiinku samayn doonaan magacayga aawadii, maxaa yeelay, waxaanay garanayn kii i soo diray. Haddaanan iman oo aanan la hadlin, dembi ma ay lahaadeen, laakiin hadda dembigooda marmarsiinyo uma haystaan.Kii i neceb, waxaa kaluu neceb yahay
Aabbahay. Haddaanan dhexdooda ku samayn shuqullada aan nin kale samayn, dembi ma ay lahaadeen, haddase aniga iyo Aabbahayba way na arkeen oo na nebcaadeen. Laakiin sidaas waxay u noqotay inuu dhammaado hadalka sharcigooda ku qorani, Way ii nebcaadeen sababla’aan.
Laakiin markuu yimaado Gargaaraha oo a an xagga Aabbaha ka soo diri doono, isagoo ah Ruuxa runta oo xagga Aabbaha ka soo baxa, ayuu ii marag furi doonaa. Idinkuna waad marag furi doontaan, waayo, tan iyo bilowgii waad ila jirteen.” – Yooxanaa chapter 15
Come to Jesus Christ – become his friend.
“Oh Lord Jesus Christ. We ask you Oh God to please help our friends the Somali Christians around the world to be strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit. Help them in their difficulties and struggles. Release them from fear and help them to serve to today and worship your forever. Amen.”
