There has been so much trouble and bloodshed, so much violence and evil committed in the heart of Somalia. What the prophet said about Israel is as if he was talking about Somalia and Mogadishu. Listen to what God say about places like Somalia and Mogadishu:

“Listen, O heavens! Pay attention, earth!
This is what the Lord says:
“The children I raised and cared for
have rebelled against me.
Even an ox knows its owner,
and a donkey recognizes its master’s care—
…    My people don’t recognize my care for them.”
Oh, what a sinful nation they are—
loaded down with a burden of guilt.
They are evil people,
corrupt children who have rejected the Lord.
They have despised the Holy One of Israel
and turned their backs on him.

Why do you continue to invite punishment?
Must you rebel forever?
Your head is injured,
and your heart is sick.
You are battered from head to foot—
covered with bruises, welts, and infected wounds—
without any soothing ointments or bandages.
Your country lies in ruins,
and your towns are burned.
Foreigners plunder your fields before your eyes
and destroy everything they see.”
– Isaiah chapter 1

Yes God says “Your head is injured and your heart is sick.”

How true of the heart of Somalia, how true of Mogadishu. The head is sick and the heart is sick.

For the country that rejects God and His ways there is only punishment and cursing. And Somalia for the most part has rejected God’s way of salvation. God sent Jesus Christ to die for us on the cross; God’s Son – His eternal Son who is the Word of God – became a man and lived upon this earth. The very earth where murder and bloodshed run wild – Jesus Christ carried all our sins upon Himself to the cross.

The prophet said:

“How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes. Before long your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side. They will crush you into the ground, and your children with you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not accept your opportunity for salvation.” – Jeremiah 19:42-44

How much more do Somalis need to see? How much more punishment must God allow before they humble themselves and confess their sins to the Lord.

God says: “At times I might shut up the heavens so that no rain falls, or command grasshoppers to devour your crops, or send plagues among you. Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” – 1 Chronicles 7:13-14

Jesus Christ

The very one that the Somalis have been rejecting as God our Saviour is the very one who will bring peace to their land – Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again from the dead and is now seated in heaven where all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him.

Jesus Christ Himself said:

“Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted!

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28

Jesus has the power to forgive you of your sins; Jesus has the power to change your life and your situation; God has the power through your faith in Jesus Christ to heal you of all your diseases; Jesus Christ is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. Jesus Christ is much more that a prophet; Jesus Christ is much more than a man; Jesus Christ is much more than a healer, forgiver of sins, Jesus Christ is very God in man – Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the eternal Son of God who has no beginning and no end and who came down to earth in the body of a man.

Jesus Christ is the Word of God through whom the entire universe was created; nothing that was created was created without the Word of God – the Word that became a man. The eternal Word of God who is God became a man and that man is named Jesus Christ; and Jesus Christ is the mediator between man and God; Jesus Christ is the one who will reconcile and bring you back to God your Father; you can become a child of God through – and only through – the blood of Jesus Christ.

It is written in the Word of God as follows:

“In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.

God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.” – John 1:1-14

Listen and believe

“Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. Remember what it says:

“Today when you hear his voice,
don’t harden your hearts
as Israel did when they rebelled.”

And who was it who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Wasn’t it the people Moses led out of Egypt? And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness? And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him? So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest.” – Hebrews 3

If you hear His voice today, if you are hearing the voice of God today do not turn your hearts and minds away in unbelief. God is with you and God is speaking to you by the power of His Holy Spirit.

God wants you to believe in His Son Jesus Christ – His eternal Son who became a man – so that you can have your sins forgiven and find your peace and rest with God. You can enter God’s rest by having your sins forgiven because Jesus Christ paid the price for your sins. Jesus died the death that you and I deserved for sinning against God; and Jesus will give us what we do not deserve which is eternal life because we have oeyed God and put our faith in Jesus Christ.

Jesus wants your heart

God wants us to obey Him and put our faith in Jesus Christ; to obey God means to put your faith in Him and to give Him all of your heart. To obey God means to put your faith in Him and what He has done for you in order to be saved. God wants you to enjoy peace and love, joy and forgiveness and eternal life now and forevermore.
