Witchcraft is anything that comes from the evil one – the devil – or as we say in Somali – the devil is Shaydaan. You Somalis believe that Shaydaan exists and that there are those who call upon his demons and evil powers to do things for them. Shaydaan has his demons who help him and in Somali they are called jinniyada.

Rebellion is a sin against God and is as bad as witchcraft. God looks upon any person on the earth who is not listening to what God is teaching them to do and calls them people who are doing witchcraft. If we follow God and obey His voice we are not participating in witchcraft.

This is what the Bible says about witchcraft:

“Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.” – 1 Samuel 15:23

“Waayo, caasinimadu waxay la mid tahay dembiga sixirka, madaxadaygguna wuxuu la mid yahay shar iyo sanam caabudidda. Waxaad diidday Eraygii Rabbiga, oo sidaas daraaddeed isna wuxuu kuu diiday inaad boqor sii ahaatid.” – Samuu’eel Kowaad 15:23

If we refuse to do what God wants us to do them we are stubborn. God wants us to forgive other people for the bad things they do towards us; God does not want us to take revenge against other people. God does not want us to repay evil to someone who has done something evil toward us; God wants us to do good to those who do evil against us. Love your enemies – do good to those who persecute you and harm you. Pray for your enemies – do not repay evil with evil.

God wants us to take care of the widows and the orphans because they are not able to take care of themselves. If we see someone hungry or thirsty and in real need then we are supposed to help them. God wants us to give clothes to those who don’t have any; God wants us to visit the people in prison and to visit the people who are sick in their homes. Praise be to God that through Jesus Christ we have received the Spirit of God who helps us do these things.

But – evil people will call other people witches just so that they can kill them. Even if a person is a witch the Lord does not want us to kill them. God says that He is the Judge and that after death when the witch stands before God in heaven then God will judge that witch and send him or her into the lake of fire which is prepared for the devil and all his angels. God is the judge. We are not the one who can decide whether to kill someone or not. If we kill another person for any reason it is murder.

Many evil people call other people witches because they want to kill those people. Some people even think the children witches should be killed or burned alive. All these things are very wicked in the eyes of God and anyone who participates in killing witches is guilty of murder before a holy God.

There was a man named John Huss who lived in Czechoslovakia around the year 1415. He was a Christian who believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. John Huss was popular among the people because John taught them about God and Jesus Christ. John Huss told the people what was written in the Bible. He told them that each person could have a friendship with God by believing in Jesus Christ as the one who would forgive their sins. Salvation was available to everyone. It wasn’t just for a few select people but everyone who wanted to have their sins forgiven and go to heaven could do so if they put their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

John Huss was put in prison because the church leaders at the time were corrupt men who did not agree with what was written in the Bible. They wanted John to die. It was the church leaders at the time who wanted to put John to death.

John told the church leaders that they were following Satan because they wanted to kill him for telling them the truth about what was in the Bible. The church leaders were practicing witchcraft. John spoke out and said that it was a sin to kill anyone who did not believe what the church leaders were teaching. The church leaders decided to kill John by burning him in a fire.

The church leaders had John tied up and then placed wood and sticks around his body that went up to his neck. The mocked him and persecuted him. Before they were to light the fire they asked John one more time if he would deny Jesus Christ as Lord and stop teaching what was in the Bible.

This is what John Huss said while tied up and ready to be burned alive:

“What did I say that was wrong? I am not guilty of anything. I was teaching men and women to turn away from their sins and to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior to receive eternal life. I am here with a cheerful heart ready to die for my Savior and ready to die for the Gospel. I was teaching people all over the country with my lips and with my words and now I am ready to seal my teaching with my own blood.”

The church leaders commanded the fire to be lit and it was. John Huss started singing a song while the fire was lit. As he died John was singing “Jesus Christ! The Son of the Living God! Have mercy on me!”

My dear Somalis, anyone who teaches you to kill other people is committing witchcraft. God is a God of love and He does not want any of us to murder anyone else. God is the judge and at the end of time Jesus Christ will sit on His throne and He will judge the people according to what they have done.

We are to live on this earth and smile and be glad and do good to those who persecute us and do evil toward us.

This is what the Bible says:

“But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, offer the other cheek also. If someone demands your coat, offer your shirt also. Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back. Do to others as you would like them to do to you.

“If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them! And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much! And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, why should you get credit? Even sinners will lend to other sinners for a full return.

“Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked. You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate. – Luke 6:27-36

Laakiin waxaan idinku leeyahay kuwiinna maqlaya, Cadowyadiinna jeclaada, kuwa idin necebna wax wanaagsan u sameeya. Kuwa idin habaara u duceeya, kuwa idin caayana Ilaah u barya. Kii dhabanka kaa dhirbaaxa, kan kalena u du; oo kii maradaada kaa qaata, khamiiskaagana ha ka celin. Mid walba oo wax kaa barya, sii; kii waxaaga qaatana, ha ka baryin. Oo sidaad doonaysaan in dadku idiin sameeyo, idinkuna sidaas oo kale u sameeya iyaga. Haddaad jeceshihiin kuwa idin jecel, mahadmaad heshaan? Waayo, xataa dembilayaashuba way jecel yihiin kuwa jecel iyaga. Haddaad wanaag u fashaan kuwa wanaag idiin fala, mahadmaad heshaan? Waayo, xataa dembilayaashuba sidaasay yeelaan. Haddaad wax amaahisaan kuwa aad ka rajaynaysaan inaad ka heshaan, mahadmaad heshaan? Waayo, xataa dembilayaashuba way amaahiyaan dembilayaasha inay ka helaan intii oo kale. Laakiin cadowyadiinna jeclaada, oo wanaag u sameeya, oo amaahiya, idinkoo aan waxba ka rajaynaynin, abaalgudkiinnuna waa badan doonaa, oo waxaadna noqon doontaan wiilashii Kan ugu sarreeya, waayo, isagu waa u roon yahay kuwa aan mahadnaqin iyo kuwa sharka leh. Naxariis lahaada sida Aabbihiin naxariis u leeyahay.” – Luukos 6:27-36

My dear brother and sisters. Turn your hearts away from evil and do good. Do not follow the teachings that say we should hate others or kill them. This is from Shaydaan and this is witchcraft. God’s will is that you love one another and forgive each other for your sins.

Let us pray….
